THINK ABOUT IT… friend and excellent broker at RE/MAX in Waterloo, Adrian Baas shared an interesting insight with me recently: Tennis star Roger Federer hired a new coach. Roger decided that he needed to change his results. As Adrian said to me, "Roger's EGO is not so big he can't use some reminders and tips on how to improve on many of the things he already knows". So why would the number three ranked tennis player in the world need to be reminded of what he "already knows"?
Here is your ACTION STEP… one of the things I have learned in doing in excess of 30,000 personal Coaching calls is that there are very few New Techniques. Most salespeople already know 90% of what there is to learn…it is not rocket science…selling is mostly common sense and good communication. So then you ask… "Bruce, I already know most of this stuff, why do I need you to remind me?" Why?…because we are human. Some traps we fall into…
1. We resist rejection so we don't prospect
2. We cut corners to get there faster and it costs us dearly
3. We forget to use proven techniques that worked for us in the past
4. We don't like to be held accountable (even though we say we do!)
5. Our EGO tells us that "we don't need any help"
