MIND POWER… when Earl Nightingale created his wildly successful book, "The Strangest Secret" over 50 years ago a lot of people paid attention. His "secret" was very simple… "You become what you think about most of the time". Of course this created a lot of debate because there are always naysayers when something that profound is introduced. Nowadays it is a very readily accepted premise. From there…it's not much of a transition to buy into the theory that in Sales… success is 90% Mindset.
Earl Nightingale never said that he invented this idea. Henry Ford said the same thing a different way earlier in the century. Mr. Ford said that, "If you think you can or if you think you can't… either way you are right". He went on to say that… "It is the thinking that makes it so".
Let's put two of these theories together. If you "become what you think about most of the time" and if "sales success is 90% mindset"… then it is critical you have control of your thoughts every day. Here's some great questions to ask yourself on ongoing basis:
1. What do I think about most of the day?
2. What do I say when I talk to myself… does it add to or subtract from how I feel?
3. What impact does my environment have on me?
4. What do I do daily to refill my "mental toughness tank"?
5. Do I accept responsibility or do I take on the "victim" role?
Sometimes you are so busy keeping things under control that you forget to do the most important thing of all… look after yourself. As the expression goes, you need to… "Be a vicious guard dog at the door of your mind". Equally important is for you to be thinking the right things all the time. Selling requires energy, skill, commitment, and most of all… powerful thinking to create a powerful mindset. NO Excuses.
