NOT SO HARD AFTER ALL...the Sales Business is not easy. Sometimes it seems very hard. Sometimes doing your daily prospecting, handling the ups and downs of emotions, suffering setbacks and frustrations is very difficult. Consider this…At 11:15 AM on June 18, 2012 Spencer West reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro-5895 m above sea level and collapsed. After months of planning, months of training, and incredible courage he made it! Here's the most amazing part…Spencer West has no legs! He made the climb in seven days going "hand over hand along the rocky path". No wonder he collapsed… no wonder he was exhausted. Due to a birth defect his legs were amputated below his pelvis at age 5. Drs. told his parents he should "stick to activities like reading and writing". Mr. West has an inbred stubborn streak that takes him far beyond conventional thinking. Mount Kilimanjaro is not an easy climb even with legs… an average of 10 trekkers die each year on the mountain & 1000 need to be evacuated annually. Spencer West was not one of them. The words "This is hard" are not part of his vocabulary. He has raised over $500,000 for charity by never giving in when the going gets tough.
Here is your ACTION STEP… no one said life was going to be easy. No one said the Sales Business was going to be easy, either. At the same time let's keep everything in perspective…often the things we are confronted with on a daily basis are not really that difficult after all. In an interview before he made that climb, Spencer West was asked, "What if you do not make it?". He paused and then replied, "I don't know… I never really thought about that".
The next time you hesitate to make that extra call, avoid closing one more time, the next time you resist picking yourself up and keep on going…think of Spencer West climbing Mount Kilimanjaro "hand over hand" with no legs. The next time you look at your circumstances and think "This is hard!"… Think again. We are all very fortunate to be who we are regardless of our current circumstances. Keep things in perspective…if Spencer West can do it, so can you. NO Excuses.
