TO BE OR NOT TO BE…sometimes the number of issues that a Salesperson has to deal with during the day can be very chaotic. It's easy to get caught up in the emotion of the moment and forget this basic question… "What is my job?". Have a look at these three absolutes:
1. Leaders lead
2. Writers write
3. Salespeople SELL!
Do you ever get so busy "putting out fires" during the day that you forget your Job Description? If you are a Salesperson, especially if you are a Commissioned Salesperson… your job is to sell things to people. The way you do that is contact potential Clients, find out their needs, present your product, and close. That's it… nothing else.
Here is your ACTION STEP… there are several ways to remind yourself to follow your Job Description each day. Ask yourself these 4 questions two or three times a day:
1. Who can I talk to you today that can help me make money this week?
2. Who are my Top Leads and have I called them exactly when I said I was going to?
3. Am I trying to be "all things to all people"? Who/what do I need to put on the "back burner"?
4. Am I sticking to my routine/my daily schedule so far today? Key question…Am I in control or am I in react mode?
General George Patton had a great mantra…. "You need to overcome the tug of people against you as you reach for high goals". How well do you do this? Ask yourself the above 4 questions on an ongoing basis every day. Remember, when you look after yourself first, you do a much better job of looking after the people who really need you. The most productive Salespeople just do their job every day…nothing else. NO Excuses.
