MIND OVER MATTER… as Blair Smith of C21, Barrie,ON (705-721-9111) just reminded me, at the end of the 2011 US Open Golf Tournament a star was born. Northern Ireland's 22 yr. old Rory McIlroy blew away the competition leading all four rounds and ending up an incredible eight strokes ahead of his closest competitor. An amazing margin of victory! What perhaps is even more astounding is how McElroy got there. A scant two months earlier, he entered the fourth round of the Augusta Masters Tournament with a three stroke lead and promptly blew it all by ballooning to a score of 80 on the last day. A lesser man would have crumbled under that defeat. Instead, the very next day what young Rory said was, "If that's the worst thing that's ever going to happen to me… then I really don't think it's all that bad". So how did he do that? How did McIlroy go from folding in the Masters to such a dominant triumph in the U.S. Open?
Here is your ACTION STEP… he said he used the Power of Affirmations. Speaking on his Twitter feed Rory quoted Mohammed Ali saying, "It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief… and once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen". Read that one again. There's enough wisdom in there to turn anyone's life around! Here's the sequence:
1. Positive affirmations have a power all their own. ("I am a great Salesperson")
2. The Repetition makes them believable. ("I believe in what I do and who I am")
3. Ultimately the believability creates a deep conviction. ("I am unstoppable!")
4. The resulting deep conviction makes things happen! ("Great things come my way every day!")
The days of doubting the Power of Affirmations are behind us. They are everywhere… they change lives every day. Make sure the affirmations you use are positive ones. Negative affirmations have the same power. Be very careful of what you say to yourself on a daily basis. Better still, create 5 to 10 great affirmations and repeat them out loud 2-3 times every day. Raise the bar on what you want to accomplish… there is nothing that can stop you. Rory McIlroy became unstoppable for four days in June 2011. Write your story the same way he wrote his. Be unstoppable! NO Excuses.
