WATCH OUT FOR THE TRAP… there is no question that Social Media has replaced a lot of the marketing that was typically done using traditional print media. In most cases it is much more economical… the question still remains as to how effective it is. Some Salespeople become very defensive when this point is brought up and respond with things like… "I got a deal just the other day from the Internet… don't tell me it doesn't work!". There is a great book on the market that really helps deal with the issue of how to skilfully employ the Internet. Check it out… "Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust" by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith. It is really good. At one point near the end of the book they caution the reader to not get too wrapped up in "chasing rainbows". They use a great metaphor to ask… "Does it matter how many people are walking around your store if they are not buying anything?". Brogan and Smith warn us not to get seduced by the "someday they might buy" myth.
Here is your ACTION STEP…great Salespeople never lose sight of the primary goal RESULTS & REVENUE. Here are some great questions to ask yourself every day…
1. Who can I talk to today that can help me make money this week?
2. Considering my goals is what I'm doing right now the very best use of my time?
3. Am I focusing on finding and working with 30 day customers or just anyone who comes along?
4. When's the last time I reviewed my Personal Goals?… what are my REAL priorities?
Effective time management is all about working to your top priorities. This Daily Sales Tip is really focusing on two main messages…#1. Use Social Media to your advantage but don't let it consume you; & #2. While it is important to develop customers for the future don't forget to select a few who are doing business right now!
