THE ESSENCE OF WHO YOU ARE… during an interview, up and coming baseball superstar for the Toronto Blue Jays, Travis Snider revealed one of his mantras. Travis said, “what defines a person is what they do when no one else is watching”. He was referring to his training regimen for his chosen profession as a superb athlete. It certainly got me thinking. In order to be a powerful Salesperson, you really have to be “living in your own truth”. By that I mean, you have to be who you say you are all the time…not just when you are in front of your customers.
Here is your ACTION STEP…here are three of the categories you can focus on with regards to “what you do when no one else is watching”. It is critical that you be brutally honest with yourself. Obviously, personal honesty is where this all begins:
1. You as a Business Person…are you doing what you tell your customers you are going to do, never offering any excuses, always delivering? (Example: following up exactly when you said you would)
2. You Personally…are you really who you say you are? Are your words and actions the same? (Example: sticking to your schedule)
3. The Philosophical You… do you have a clear picture of what you really believe and does your lifestyle and performance “mirror” these beliefs? (Example: tell them the truth, being honest)
Admittedly, this is pretty “heavy stuff”. There is lots of good news in the midst of all this. One of the most powerful by-products of “living in your own truth” is how it affects your self-confidence. By doing what you say you are going to do, by “being your word”, by never “living a lie”… you can look at anyone and everyone in the eye (including yourself) knowing that you are everything you say you are. What a beautiful way to be. By doing this your self-confidence skyrockets! When you have great self-confidence, your customers will sense this and your Sales Results will also skyrocket. It is very liberating. Set yourself free! NO Excuses.
