TWO LAWS THAT WORK…in 2006 Australian author and filmmaker Rhonda Byrne published the wildly successful book and DVD entitled "The Secret". It was a modern day review of previously published material covering the premise that said… "You become what you think about all day long". In its simplest state it was a review of the Law of Attraction with the exciting promise that "your wish is your command".
Not surprisingly, it created a tremendous amount of debate. Some said that it was "the answer to my dreams" and others said "it just invites people to be lazy rather than put in any effort". The truth lies somewhere in the middle of these two points of view. Ms. Byrne never said that all you had to do was decide what you want, buy a box of doughnuts, and go home and wait for the landslide of results! In the Business of Sales you need to be realistic about how to make things happen for yourself.
Here's your ACTION STEP… there really are two laws that come into play here. The Law of Attraction and the Law of Activity. The Law of Attraction does work very effectively for Salespeople. It says that you attract certain things to you as a result of the energy you give off. You can attract good things or you can attract bad things. There is another law that all Salespeople must bring into play… it is the Law of Activity. This law states that when you are in action, results will come your way. The interesting thing is the results will not necessarily come from the activities you are engaged in. The Law of Activity simply states that when you are working, you will get more results than if you are just sitting and waiting. The exciting news is that used together, these two laws are extremely powerful! Here are some answers on how to use these two laws to your advantage in your Sales Business…
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION + THE LAW OF ACTIVITY
1. Decide what you want and write it out (don't be one of those who says "I don't need to do that, it's all in my head")
2. Focus on this list every day… for many people making it highly visible is very effective
3. Create a simple plan of activities on how to make these goals come true (Critical Point: remember that your activities must equal your goals)
4. Do these activities on a daily basis. DO NOT expect things to happen on their own (Sales Activities should include things like: lead generation, lead follow-up, making presentations, closing)
5. Stay consistent, be patient, and move forward every day
The key to making Rhonda Byrne's "The Secret" work is to combine both the Law of Attraction and the Law of Activity. One establishes what you want and the other helps you get it. Anything less and you are operating in Fantasyland. Sitting in a dark room "waiting for my prince to come" is another way of saying… "I'm not prepared to put in any effort, I'm looking for the easy way out". Follow the above five steps and you will get the best of both. There is no doubt that the Law of Attraction does work, you just have to make sure that you give it a nudge on a daily basis.
