Pest Control… every year there is a season in most parts of the country when the mosquitoes emerge. They buzz around, become an irritant, and certainly distract everyone they come near. In some ways, managing your day in the Sales Business is like dealing with mosquitoes. Most Salespeople start their day with a plan in place. It’s those “mosquitoes” that come along that make things difficult. The most successful Salespeople recognize that:
“A major part of my success comes from effective Time Management. The more effectively I defend my time and my attention to the tasks at hand, the better my results.”
So how do we keep these “mosquitoes” under control? How do we make sure that we don’t “get bitten”?
Here is your ACTION STEP…there are two main types of distractions – external (outside influences) and internal (creative avoidance). Either way, here are three very solid solutions to the “pest control” challenge:
Insecticide #1. At the start of each day write down the three main things you must accomplish before you finish work. Do not stop until they are done. NO Excuses.
Insecticide #2. Follow the same routine every working day… get up at the same time and do the same things in the same order at least until noon. NO Excuses.
Insecticide #3. Accept the fact that you cannot please everyone. Some people are not going to respect your schedule. That’s okay, the key is to keep your priorities at the top of the list. NO Excuses.
The days when you are most productive are the days you have everything well under control. As author Stephen Covey is often quoted, “The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing”. Keep those “mosquitoes” away from you by using the above three insecticides. Protect yourself from getting bitten. You will get a lot more done, you will feel much more fulfilled, and your important Clients will get better service. Good time management is critical. NO Excuses.
