WHAT INSPIRES YOU?…on Monday, April 16, 2012 Canadian Josh Cassidy won the Boston Marathon wheelchair race. An achievement most of us can’t really relate to. Think about it… unseasonably grueling heat, 42 kilometres, pushing himself to the limits including struggling up the notorious “Heartbreak Hill”, achieving a goal he had already attempted unsuccessfully twice before. Josh is 27 years old and was born with neuroblastoma, cancer of the spine and abdomen. He has been in a wheelchair all his life. He is one determined young man.
The inspiration of Josh’s story comes not so much from his athletic accomplishments. More so, from the person he has become. There are a multitude of stories surrounding his leadership qualities, his charisma, and most of all his determination to succeed at everything he does. Growing up in Ottawa Josh was the goalie in the road hockey games, he was the leader for children’s hikes in the woods, he was ever ready to be “knocked out of my wheelchair” in pickup football games in the park. Impressive to say the least.
