HOW YOUNG ARE YOU?...I received a great note the other day from one of my long-time Coaching Clients who shared this story…
"I was showing investment condos downtown to a Surgeon client. Going up in the elevator. He asked me a question, which I thought was a joke. "If I operated on a man that day. A man who had just played golf on Monday and Wednesday, what is the oldest he could be?" I thought 80, he said no. Then I said 90. He said the patient was 102. That's one hundred and two years old and still golfing 2x per week! The patient's comment just before the procedure, was "Doctor, I hope this won't slow me down". Everything in perspective."
After reading that, the first thought that comes to mind is, "We should all be so fortunate". Upon further reflection though, the truth is… we all are that fortunate! We are in control of how young we feel, how young we act, and how much energy we radiate. As Salespeople our Prospects/Clients/Customers want to do business with someone who is pleasant to be around. Someone who is "emotionally attractive". Steve Jobs said, "After the age of 30 most people are like a record and get stuck in a groove". A rather scary prediction, isn't it?
Here is your ACTION STEP… so how do you stay young? How do you stay vibrant so that your customers want to hear from you?
FOREVER YOUNG
1. Revise Your Vision… get very excited about where you are going!
2. Stay in Control… keep the "snakes in the box" by doing the important things first
3. Love Your Job… fall in love all over again with your career, your skills, and your products/services. If you can't then do yourself a favor and find a new job. You deserve to be excited and stay that way
4. Look after You First… "By serving yourself first, you serve your real clients best". BK
No matter what your age, remember that people are evaluating you on who you are being, not how long you've been around! Have fun and laugh out loud at least three times every day. Jump in a few puddles! Be "emotionally attractive" for your customers. NO Excuses.
