WHAT'S YOUR VACUUM?… There are always some people out there that seem to have perfect lives. Everything is in place… family, health, finances, career, etc. There are periodicals, magazines, and television shows that focus on the "perfect people". It is hard not to look at these people without envy…we think "If only...". Then these same media vehicles discover an imperfection and blow it all out of proportion. Some celebrity gets caught with their "hand in the cookie jar" and we feel better… "Gee, they're not perfect after all!". The truth is that everyone has warts… everyone has imperfections. Salespeople are no different. Even the best and most successful Salespeople have imperfections. Believe it or not, it's these imperfections – these vacuums that make you stronger.
Here is your ACTION STEP… all Salespeople have vacuums. Let's look at some of the most important components of what makes up a great Salesperson. Once you accept these basics then you can identify what's the next vacuum you want to fill… where's your most important next growth opportunity?…
VACUUMS I COULD FILL & GROW
1. Time management… are your priorities always front and center?
2. Presentation skills… do you believe you are the best presenter in your field?
3. Mindset… a tough one to measure… is your glass half empty? Half full? Or better yet "full/full"?
4. Lead generation… the obvious one… are you looking for business daily or waiting by the phone?
5. Selling skills… most Salespeople are hoping they can learn by "osmosis"! Are you practicing or praying?
Two thoughts for closing this Sales Tip. First of all, pick one of the above (they are all important) and put a plan in place to start working on it today. You're going to need it sooner or later, may as well start now. Second point…it's okay to have a vacuum, everyone has them. Ever had a disaster happen in your life? Ever had something go terribly wrong? Of course you have… predictably though, 6 or 12 or 18 months later you looked back and said, "That was the best thing that ever happened to me… that's what turned my life around." These imperfections and vacuums are what help you grow. The power you gain from overcoming adversity, the confidence you gain from taking on a new challenge, the self-assurance you gain from mastering a new skill… all of these add up to you filling your vacuums. Never lose sight of the better person you are becoming every day. Take the time today to stand in front of your mirror, smile and say to yourself… "You know what?… I really am getting pretty good at this business. Good job self!". NO Excuses.
