FORGET THE PAST…it's easy to become wrapped up in the drama of what happened. Sometimes our memory can sabotage us. Here is a different perspective… all NHL hockey teams have a minimum of two goalies on their roster. All teams have a Goalie Coach who works exclusively with the goalies. Obviously, the value of the goalie in a sport as competitive as hockey is paramount. One of the most successful Goalie Coaches is a gentleman by the name of Francois Allaire…he is very, very good.
When asked about the characteristics of a great goalie, Mr. Allaire said that…"a great goalie must have a SHORT MEMORY". This works two ways. They must learn to forget what went wrong and they must learn to forget what went right.
Here is your ACTION STEP...in other words, we all must learn to "Start Every Day at Zero". No doubt you have heard that expression about "starting every day at zero" before. There are two sides to this advice:
1. If you had a great day yesterday, forget it… get back to work, keep your routine intact.
2. You had a bad day yesterday, forget it… get back to work, keep your routine intact.
As a friend of mine once told me years ago, "in the business of Selling remember two things… when things go well you are not really that great…and when things go badly you are not really that bad either". To be great we all must learn how to "start every day at zero". May as well start today. NO Excuses.
